Che and his friend stopped for the night in the cold and met a couple who were making their way to work in the mines with the worst conditions. This was because they were communist and so they were forced out of their homes and into hiding. Che says that they were just poor people looking for something new. They just wanted to be equal, they wanted to have food and clothing like all the other people and communism would supposedly make this possible. I think that this might have helped to shape his political ideas because he had ideas of socialism (which is similar to communism). He also saw that it was important to help the poor and wanted to get rid of poverty. I think that the poor people that he met helped to give him these ideas. At the end of the section he goes back and tells about the things that he saw in Chile. I think that all of the poverty and disgusting conditions that he saw/experienced had an effect on his future values.
